In the absence of British Council representation
the Information Officer is also responsible for
cultural affairs, and one of the 4 locally
engaged staff works in the Philippine-British
Reading Room.
(ii) Future Developments
The Ambassador recently reported that in the
next few years there are likely to be important
changes in the Philippine situation which will
provide opportunities for us to build a more
useful relationship.
(ii). Overall Assessment
Although the Philippines are part of the English-
speaking world, it is nevertheless becoming
important to shore up English against the
encroachment of Filipino/Tagolog.
