OVERSEAS INFORMATION PRE-ESTIMATES PLANNING
Corrigendum
to the record of a meeting on Tuesday,
14 September, on Asia and Australasia. Please substitute the following for the penultimate paragraph of the record, a copy of which was sent to you.
"Mr Crowson said that in China there was nothing
to cut. In Japan there was no scope for reductions. In South Korea an expansion of the now minimal information effort was needed. In particular there was a strong case for the establishment of a British Council presence. Mr Crowson outlined this case. Mr Reddaway suggested that one way of getting into Korea was through inward and outward visits. Mr Crowson agreed but did not think that this could be a substitute for a better information effort, or the establishment of a British Council office. It was noted for the record that consideration should be given to a British Council presence."
