CONFIDENTIAL

COTE ON MEETING HELD IN SIR LESLIE MONSON'S OFFICE ON LO JUNE 1971

Present:

Sir Leslie Monson ·

Sir David Trench

Mr MacLchose

Mr Laird

Mr Gaminara

APPOINTMENTS OF UNOFFICIAL HEMDERS TO EXECUTIVE AND LEGISLATIVE COUNCILS

1. The Governor suggested that Mr MacLchose should discuss this matter with Sir Hugh Norman-Walker soon after Mr MacLohose's arrival in Hong Kong. The appointments of all Unofficial Members expired at the end of 1971 and in the Governor's view the best thing would be to extend them for a further six months from that date. This would givo Mr MacLchoso time to assess the situation before recommending cubstantive appointments for a longer porică.

2. The Governor thought it time that Y K Kan came off the Legislative Council, in which case it would be advisable not to renew PC Woo's appointment either, since he would otherwise become the senior unofficial member and was not capable of adequately filling that role,

3.

The appointments of official Members were being dcalt with soparately and presented no problem.
