Thank you for your letter of 11th February. I think you need not worry about Your briefs: their preparation is well in hand; your deadline should be met; and the Colonial Secretariat really do this kind of thing very well, being much practised at it. Inevitably, however, they will involve a lot of reading.

A fairly intense programme of visiting is certainly a must early in your time here: and indeed it is something which has to be continued all through your term of office (but of course at a more deliberate pace). programme will be prepared for submission to you on arrival: but I warn you it will involve about 60 full mornings or afternoons and may take up to six months to complete the full cycle bearing in mind the mornings and afternoons committed to regular meetings such as Executive Council, Legislative Council, and the Friday morning defence and security meeting (now an occasion of considerably more importance than when you used to attend as P.A.).
I think you will find quite a lot in the briefs, when you read them, on which you may wish to ask further questions when we meet: but of course I shall be at your disposal for this purpose in Jun for as long or as short a time as you like.
