The object of all this would simply be to learn a little about how other people tackle the sort of problems that confront Hong Kong. Though obviously what is done elsewhere will be of only very limited application in Hong Kong, I think a course of this sört might help me to redeploy from the outlook of an Ambassador to that of a Governor.
In September/October I plan to spend about a month in London doing final calls and briefing. Then take a few weeks' holiday before getting to Hong Kong about 18 November.
