ROYAL VISITS COMMITTEE
Possible Royal Visits to Malaysia and Singapore
Mr. Mayall's Circular No.TXV 13/1 of 1 June asks for
recommendations by 9 June on proposals for inward or outward
Royal Visits for 1970 and 1971. There are two proposals which
concern SWPD:
(i)
(ii)
a possible visit by The Queen and the Duke of
Edinburgh to Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand (including a visit to the Commonwealth Prime
Ministers' Conference) in January 1971;
à possible visit by Princess Alexandra to
Malaysia and Hong Kong probably in late 1970.
2. On (i) I understand that the possibility of arranging the
State Visit to Thailand and Malaysia so as to include a visit to Singapore at the time of the Prime Ministers' Conference is
under consideration at a high level. It had previously been
recommended that the State Visit to Thailand and Malaysia
should take place at the end of 1971 or early in 1972.
