COLONIAL SECRETARIAT. HONG KONG.
28th July, 1970.
RECAV
The Governor has asked me to thank you for your letter ~HKK 26/1 of 14th July, 1970 (which crossed mine of 11th July)
concerning the possibility of a visit to Hong Kong by Princess Alexandra in the spring of 1971.
A visit next spring would in fact now be more convenient from our point of view than a visit in the autumn of this year and would be most welcome. It would be preferable to avoid the following periods:-
N
REC TRY No. 51
-5 AU 1970
HKX26/2
(a) January 24th,to February 1st the Chinese
New Year period;
(b) February 24th to March 25th Budget time
(although the week 14-21 March 1971 would not be impossible);
(c) April 21st the Queen's birthday; and
(d) May 1st.
While
I should perhaps elaborate on (c) above a little. we, would all very much enjoy having H.R.H. here to attend the various functions held on that day, they do virtually take up the whole day. It would be difficult to arrange anything else' for H.R.H. during the day and would raise certain (not insuperable) complications of procedure during these functions.
?
The unofficials will not be informed of the possibility of the visit at this stage. We look forward to hearing from you further when something more definite is known.
