I mentioned to Sir David Trench and Mr. MacLehose when I saw them together recently that HRH Princess Alexandra would not be able to visit Hong Kong during 1971. Sir D. Trench was of course very sorry to hear this. I suggested that we might be thinking of a Royal Visit to coincide with one of the opening ceremonies planned for the end of 1972 or early 1973, but we had no discussion about this.

This is all so far away that I think the best think to do would be to put the file away until, say, 1 January, 1972. We may of course hear from Hong Kong in the meantime.
