Your successor has already been asked on the telephone by two Hong Kong newspapers for comment on reports of his appointment. He has so far declined to comment.
2. He would be grateful for your advice whether it would he appropriate, after appointment has been announced, for. him to make a statement through your Information Office to Hong Kong Press as a whole expressing delight and saying that he is looking forward to taking up the appointment next year. He suggests that this might be done some time next week
when Hong Kong Press reactions to announcement are known.
