VISIT OF CHANCELLOR OF DUCHY OF LANCASTER
TO HONG KONG
We are now considering form of briefing
required for Mr. Rippon's visit. We propose to
recommend that he should take the first opportunity
after his arrival in Hong Kong to make it known
that the primary purpose of his visit will be to get
a clearer picture of the questions raised for
Hong Kong by our entry into the EEC; and that he
will not be concerned during his visit with internal
Hong Kong affairs. Provided you see no objection
it will in fact be helpful if this can be made
generally known in advance of the visit.
