statement about Japan visit (at 12.30 B.S.T,

on 17 February) News Department would add a

sentence as follows:-

"On his way to Tokyo the Secretary

of State will spend the weekend in

Hong Kong, where he will have the

opportunity to meet the Governor

and members of the Executive and

Legislative Councils."

If asked about dates we would say he would

arrive in Hong Kong on 17 April and leave

on 19 April. There is no reason why in

any parallel announcement you may wish to

make in Hong Kong you should not mention

dates.
