NOTHING TO BE WRITTEN IN THIS MARGIN
CONFIDENTIAL
Miss Booker (Assistant Head of News Depart-
ment), three P.A.s and two detectives. If
there is room at Fanling Lodge the Secretary
of State would be glad if Wellbeloved and
the Permanent Under Secretary could accompany
him and Mrs. Stewart, in addition to one
detective. Rooms at Government House
create problems. I would suggest that the
Stewarts, the Permanent Under Secretary,
myself and one of the detectives should stay
at Government House. If another room is
available, it should be for Nr. Wellbeloved.
Rest of party should go into hotels.
5. We will be in touch separately about
arrangements for conduct of official business
while Mr. Stewart is in Hong Kong. Would it
be possible to set up a small office in
Government House with room for the Private
Office staff of four? Miss Booker needs a
suite in a hotel which doubles as her office.
Announcement about visit. The idea

behind not mentioning dates of visit to Hong
Kong was not to draw attention to the time
the Secretary of State will spend resting
/there.
