Secretary of State's Visit
Thank you very much for your letter of 4 February. It would perhaps be most convenient if I were to reply taking the points you made in the same order.
Composition of the Farty
2. We now understand that Miss Booker will be coming in place of Mr. Haydon and that the P.U.S. will be coming in place of Sir Stanley Tomlinson. I should be grateful to know as soon as possible whether, including the names you have already mentioned, this is now the total that we can expect. I should warn you that accommodation is extremely difficult to secure at this late stage in Tokyo because of the enormous demand on hotels due to Expo. Naturally, we shall do our best to accommodate as many of the Secretary of State's party as possible within the Embassy grounds (see paragraph 4).
Travel
3. These arrangements will now have been changed by the decision of the Secretary of State to arrive in Tokyo on Sunday evening, 19 April, at 20.10 hrs. and leave on Thursday night 23 April.
Living and Office Accommodation
4. After consulting the Ambassador I propose the following arrangements:
Secretary of State and
Mrs. Stewart
The P.U.S.
Mr. Graham
One detective
Mr. Murray
Mr. Barrington
Miss Booker
