Please refer to your minute of 2 April, I attach a draft answer to the question on East of Suez policy which I have cleared with Hong Kong Department and the Ministry of Defence.

News Department may omit the last three sentences giving details of the forces which are being deployed to Malaysia during the course of exercise Bersatu Padu this year if they consider that the answer is too long.
