The lease of the New Territories will expire in

27 years' time. Many people in Hong Kong fear that

when the lease expires, Britain will return Hong Kong

to China. Because of this, many Hong Kong families havesenigrated overseas and others plan to do so. Does the United Kingdom Government have any plans for starting

negotiations with China for an extension of the lease

of the New Territories?

The Chinese Government has recently released a number

of British subjects detained in China. Would you comment

on this aspect of Ang1,-Chinese relationship?
