ANSWER:

On 22 July, 1969, the President of the Board of Trade

announced in the House of Commons HMG's intention, with

effect from 1 January, 1972, to discontinue the present

quota system on imports of cotton textiles from the

developing countries and to introduce instead a tariff on

imports of woven cotton textiles from the Commonwealth

Preference Area at 85% of the most-favoured-nation satése.
