17. QUESTION:
Do you not consider that the creation of a post of
Ombudsman would serve a useful purpose in Hong Kong?
ANSWER:
It is the opinion of the Governor and UMELCO members
an opinion which I share that steps should first be taken
to strengthen the machinery which already exists for
enabling the people of Hong Kong to make known and seek
redress for their grievances.
This in no way rules out the possibility of consideration
being given in the future to the appointment of an Ombudsman.
