Inward Visits
Cambodia
5. The Foreign Minister, Mr. Koun Wick, paid a visit to London on
3-5 September on his way to Lusaka, during which he called on the
Prime Minister and the Secretary of State, and was entertained to
lunch by Mr. Royle.
Laos
6.
The Prime Minister, Prince Souvanna Phouma, is coming to London
for a visit as our guest from 13-14 October (this is something of an
annual feature). Arrangements have been made for him to call on the
Prime Minister and the Secretary of State.
Thailand
7. The Prime Minister has agreed to an invitation being extended to
Field Marshal Thanom Kittikhajorn to pay an official visit. The
Chargé d'Affaires in Bangkok has been asked to convey this, and to
suggest mid-November. We doubt, however, if Thanom will be
interested in accepting the invitation for November; he may propose
instead that he visits London as part of a European Grand Tour next
year. It will in this event be essential to agree on suitable antes.
8. Lt. General Pichai Kullavanijaya, Deputy Minister of Economic
Affairs, is coming to London from 21-26 September as leader of a Thai
trade mission. Arrangements are being made by the Board of Trade for
him to call on one of their Ministers, and responsibility for his
programme will be shared between the Board of Trade and the Thai
Embassy. We do not think it necessary for any F.C.O. Minister to bo
directly involved.
