(b) the maintenance until departure of such a person

and his dependants,

if any,

any money belonging to that person; and except so far as they

are paid as aforesaid the expenses of or incidental to the

removal from Hong Kong of a person in respect of whom a

removal order or a deportation order is in force shall be

net from moneys provided by the Legislative Council.

20.

PART VII.

Detention.

Without prejudice to any other provision of this

Ordinance, where any member of the Immigration Service of the

rank of chief immigration inspector or above or any police

officer of the rank of assistant superintendent or above is

satisfied

(a) that inquiry for the purposes of this Ordinance,

other than the provisions thereof relating to

deportation, is necessary in the case of any

person; and

(b) that such person may abscond if he is not detained,

such person may be detained for not more than seven days.

Detention pending examination

of person who lands in

Hong Kong under

approved

arrangements.

21. A person who lands in Hong Kong for the purpose of

examination under section 3 in accordance with arrangements

approved by the Director may be detained under the authority

of an immigration officer pending the examination.
