ROBSON SAYS FIRM PROPOSALS FOR HIGH ISLAND POSSIBLE IN JUNE
The cost of providing rosettlement and low-cost housing ovor tho next three years would be about $270 million, the Director of Public Works, Mr. J.J. Robson, said today.
Spoaking at the rosumod debate in the Logislative Council on the Appropriation Bill 1970, ho estimated this sum would be spent on homes for 198,000 in resettlement ostatos, and 211,750 in low cost housing estates.
"Rosottlomont and low-cost housing have for many years represented the largost slice of Public Works expenditure and in spite of the proposed expansion of the road construction programmo, High Island Dam and slum
this will continue to be the case for many years," he commented. Within existing policy, tho problem had not, so far, boon one of money but of finding sufficient suitable sites, staff to do the work and the capacity or ability of the building industry.
