foreseeable future. On 1 April, 1968 there

were fifteen cottage areas with a population

of 86,000. Many of the buildings in these

areas were put up by the settlers themselves

but a number of welfare and non-profit making

non-profit

organisations have since constructed a very

large number of such buildings. Gradually

these areas are being re-developed and the

present occupants of cottage resettlement areas

needed for transit centres or permanent

development are given priority in the

allocation of resettlement accommodation, the

population in these areas at the end of 1969

being 57,568.
