The first block of this type has just been completed at Lan Tin,

and it is the 500th resettlement block to be constructed by the Public Works

Department.

To distinguish this block from others, an eye-catching traditional

dragon has been emblazoned on one of the exterior walls. It will be ready

for a ceremony next Thursday when the Acting Director of Public Works,

Mr. R.C. Clarke, will hand over the building to Mr. Paul K.C. Tsui, Commissioner

for Resettlement.

The Acting Governor, Sir Hugh Norman-Walker, will open the building

following its handing over.

The Fublic Works Department will also be celebrating at the same

time the completion of the 50th estate school in resettlement estates.

building, six storeys high and containing 24 classrooms, is adjacent to the

500th block, and will also be opened by the Acting Governor.

In older estates, schools are on the roofs or on the ground floors

of blocks. In the newer estates, separate school buildings are provided for

the primary education of children living in the estates.
