Extension of the Copyright Act 1956
to Hong Kong
26
Thank you for your letter IPCD 36862/2 of 22 July on the above subject.
2. We have not yet examined in detail the points mentioned in your letter, but I am sending you this interim reply in order to clarify one or two matters.
3.
Design Copyright Act. 1968
I do not think that I have ever indicated to you that the Governor has decided to have this Act extended to Hong Kong. In fact, he has recently told us that it is unlikely that they will be able to reach a decision on the matter for some months. While he agrees that it would probably be advantag- eous, for practical reasons, to apply the Act at the same time that the Copyright Act, 1956, is extended to Hong Kong, he would not wish any delay in reaching a decision on the Design Copyright Act to hold up the application to Hong Kong of the 1956 Act.
4.
Section 40 of the Copyright Act 1956
We have been unable to trace any record of the receipt of Wallace's letter of 23 July, 1968, to which you refer. Perhaps you would be good enough to let me have a copy.
5. We are still awaiting a reply to Wilford's letter to the Governor of 19/June, 1970, but meanwhile we will go into the other points raised in your letter under reference.
23th May 1968.
