1. Your letter to the Permanent Under Secretary at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of 16 August 1970 asking if you could be considered for a vacancy in Hong Kong has been passed to me as you had also written to me, and as this Ministry and myself are concerned with vacancies in Hong Kong.
2. I presume you are referring to a vacancy for a judgeship and not to vacancies for magistates, There are no vacancies for judges in either Hong Kong or the Seychelles at present, (I refer to the Seychelles as well as Hong Kong as you mentioned the former in your letter to me). There will be a vacancy in Hong Kong for a judgeship sometime next year but as the aggregate staff of the judiciary and the Attorney General's department exceeds 60, you will no doubt appreciate that it is most unlikely that Hong Kong will look outside for a candidate. Anyhow, there would be no question of the appointment being offered to a retired judge. As to the Seychelles, as far as I can see there will be no vacancy for a judgeship for very many years to come.
3. There are vacancies in Hong Kong for magistrates but I presume you would not be interested in these and, anyhow, I think your age would rule you out.
