The Quartermaster General is going to visit Hong Kong shortly and I would be very grateful if you would let me know if there have been any recent developments regarding the Hong Kong Defence costs as this is a subject about which the QMG might be questioned.
When the Minister of Defence for Administration visited Hong Kong in January he spoke to the Governor about the Defence contribution and I have a note of the general line of their discussion. However I believe you wrote to the Governor on 9 October and it would be useful to learn any details of his reply that you feel might be useful when briefing the QMG. If you have any other general points about Hong Kong which you feel should be brought to the General's attention,we would of course be very grateful to include them in our brief.
If possible I would welcome a reply by 9 April although I realise that this gives you very little time and I apologise for this rush.
