As the result

of its decision to withdraw British forces from the Far East by the end of 1971, the previous Administration had also decided to increase the Army element of the garrison to 7/ major units · at that time, since it would no longer have been possible to reinforce the garrison in time of need from forces within the

Far Eastern Theatre. However, although

no official decision has yet been taken,

it now appears virtually certain that

the army element in the post 1971 garrison
