6. The Governor has said that he sees no difficulty in retaining four Gurkha units in a total teeth arm strength of 7 major units, although he has indicated that he would have preferred one more British and one less Gurkha unit. But I do not think that he would look at all favourably on a balance of 4 Gurkha and 2 British major units.
7. We have not attempted to consult the Governor in the short time available: if however the idea of borrowing a battalion from Hong Kong is to be further pursued then it will be essential to obtain the Governor's views.
