All these units are fully employed until the end of December 1970
and only by reducing a commitment could a unit be made available
for service in Northern Ireland during this period. These can only be
examined in the context of Far East .commitments as a whole.
30.
Hong Kong. The minimum acceptable force level for Hong Kong
has been assessed as 6 major units and one unit available in
Singapore to reinforce the Colony within 72 hours. As a result of
the amalgamation of two Gurkha battalions in Hong Kong, a commando
from Singapore is to be stationed in the Colony from August
December 1970 to maintain force levels. The second commando is
earmarked as the reinforcement unit. We do not consider that the
