possibility of deploying this immediate reserve unit from UK was examined in 1968 (4); but, although the move could be achieved
theoretically in 72 hours, all the conditions such as overflying
clearances, could not be guarranteed. This was therefore not considered further. There are also plans (6) for additionally
reinforcing Hong Kong with up to three infantry battalions and
a reduced brigade headquarters,

In our previous study wo concluded (4) that it would be necessary to bring the land force level of the Hong Kong garrison back to its recommended strength of 73 major units before the
withdrawal from Singapore was completed in 1971.

The land force
Six infantry battalions
One light regiment, Royal Artillery
One armoured car squadron
One field squadron, Royal Engineers
Four of the battalions would be Gurkha.
