1.7. This basic system would however need minor modification to take

account of the Royal Navy command requirement in the general area East of Suez; the Army requirement for control of training units; the Royal Air Force requirement for the control of visiting units and other possible national tasks; and the general need for the

air forces to have suitable links with the IADS.

The rotation of the post of ANZUK naval commander between

Australia, New Zealand and the UK would be a logical solution.

this was accepted, there would be a requirement for a permanent Resident Naval Officer (RNO) (Commander RN) in Singapore to advise C-in-C Western Fleet (CINCWF) of requirements in SE Asia and to liaise with the ANZUK Naval Commander who would have operational

control of HM Ships allocated to the ANZUK naval force. If however in the course of negotiations it transpired that Australia and New Zealand would prefer to have the ANZUK post filled permanently

by a Commodore RN, this would be an acceptable alternative solution. It is envisaged that the RNO, in the rank of commander, would still be required for national purposes since the ANZUK Commodore (RN
