Implementation Of Policy

Mr. Canning said in September last year there was a total of

nearly 65,000 secondary school places in Government and aided schools,

and he expected that by September this year there would be an increase

of at least 10,000 places, with a further 15,000 by September next

and a further 17,000 places by September, 1972.

year

These figures reflected the "successful implementation of the

Government's existing policies."

Proposals were being prepared to establish new targets for

post-primary places in accordance with the needs of the 1970s and

they would soon be set before the Board of Education and the Council for

their consideration.
