A total of 41,244 children from 683 schools wore benefiting from
the School Modical Service at the end of the last financial year on March 31,
1970
compared with 41,066 from 645 schools previously.
Serving them wore 195 doctors, 33 with a panel of more than 500
pupils, 31 botwoon 200 and 500, and 70 fower than 200.

Sixty-one doctors
All woro paid $14 a year a pupil, and all wore allocated to
schools noar their officos, with the school's choice of doctor generally
adhorod to.
Thoso statistics form part of tho annual roport of tho chairman
of the School Modical Service Board, Dr. the Hon. Sir Albert Rodrigues, to
bo tablod in the Logislativo Council on Wednesday.
Sir Albert said though the enrolment romainod a disappointing
4.1 por cant of oligible school children, it should be borne in mind that
a significant foature of tho schomo was tho oarly detection of defects that
might hampor a child's normal development.
Ho regruttod the public continuod to misunderstand the aims and
objects of the Service.
