Hong Kong and British officials met between
November, at the Foreign and Commonwealth
Office, to discuss various aspects of the British
application for membership of the European Communities
The opening session of the talks on 23 Novembor
was attended by the Chancellor of the Duchy of
Lancaster, Mr. Geoffrey Rippon, and the Governor of
Hong Kong, Sir D. Trench.
The talks covered Hong Kong's position in the
light of the British negotiations, and the prospects
for Hong Kong, in the event of British membership of
the enlarged European' Communities.
They had a full discussion of the aims in the
negotiations. Britain will continue to take account
of Hong Kong views during the negotiations.
