Thank you for your letter of 15 August, which arrived in my absence on leave. I am sorry that we may not see you on your travels so much in future but delighted to know why, and wish you all success as Deputy Economic Secretary.

I am grateful for your record of the consultations on sheeting and sheets. I think we are both agreed that the point is of academic interest for 1970, and, as I said in my letter of 6 August to Eric Ho, I am sure that we can come to an amicable settlement for 1971. Indeed, I doubt for my part here whether it will be necessary to meet to discuss 1971, and I expect to be writing to Jack Cater shortly with proposals.
