The Swedes have given no figures for rayon and knitted anoraks.

Swedish production of gynthetics increased in 1969 almost to the peak of 1967.

3. The Finna have obviously benefitted a great deal by the existing restriction on imports of synthetic anoraks from Hong Kong.

Swedish production of cotton anoraks fell by more than the increase in production of gynthetics.

5.

Imports of gotton anoraks rose only marginally, but within the total there was a heavy drop in imports from Hong Kong and a large increase in importa from Portugal.

6. Swedish exports of synthetic anoraka rose to nearly a quarter of total output in spite of the very big increase in inports. Cotton exports fall slightly.

Conclusion Swedish production of synthetiss cammot be “like or directly competitive" with imports from Hong Kong. The competition from imports was probably with the Swedish cotton anoraks, but, if so, the restrictions which were imposed on Hong Kong only diverted trade to Portugal and Finland. Restrictions on imports from these countries would be contrary to the RPTA Convention.
