One reason, I think, why the competitive threat from other South East Asian countries is not yet sufficiently recognised in Burope is that so little is said in the United States about their growing performance there, This may be partly due to the political commitment of the Americans to Taivan and ɛouth Korea, which I need not elaborate os. It seems to me that it would bring certain advantages to Europe if at least an enlarged Community recognized a similar degree of commitment in respect of Kong Kong. I am not saying that this should go as far an Association. I knew that the six have rejected that. But certainly for the Six to insist that an enlarged Community should, through the 0.8.P., go as far as to discriminate against a dependent territory of a Member State and in favour of some of her closest competitors seems to me to be politically unrealistis, illogical and unjust,
One further point. I am sorry to say that it proved impossible in the one more
