Night Work for Women.

In our Telegram/137 about night work

for women we told you of an intended call

on Lord Shepherd by Mr. Gibson, General-

Secretary of the National Union of Hosiery

and Knitwear Workers. He was to be accomp-

anied by Mr. Pendergast, the Union's President,

and Mr./Greenhalgh, the General-Secretary

of the International Textile and Garment

Workers Federation. The Meeting was held

as anticipated on 17 March. Mr. Milhench

of the United Textile Factory Worker's

Assoiation and Mr. T. Matthews of the Union

of Tailor and Garment Workers who had also

written to the Minister, accompanied Mr.

Gibson at Lord Shepherd's invitation.

The original purpose of the meeting

was to enable Mr. Gibson, Mr. Pendergast

and Greenhalgh "to discuss (with the Minister)

(Mr. Gibson's and Mr. Pendergast's) experiences

in the Far East with particular reference

to the position in Hong Kong". In view

however, of

subsequent correspondence,

it became clear that the meeting would be
