CONTINUATION

My Union, and I am sure the Trade Union movement in this country would support my views that this is surely a very retrograde step, particularly when one considers that in Japan and Taiwan women are not allowed to work nights. It would seem morally wrong that

the British Government should sanction such a revolutionary move in this area of the world for setting an example (a poor one at that) to the other countries.

My General President, Mr. Pendergast and I would like to have the opportunity of meeting yourself and your advisors, with our international secretary, Mr. Jack Greenhalgh, to discuss our experiences in the Far East, with particular reference to the industrial position in Hong Kong.

If you will be kind enough to agree to meet myself and my two colleagues, perhaps your secretary could make the necessary arrangements, by telephone, regarding the time and date, when we shall be only too pleased to meet you at your personal convenience.

Yours sincerely,

Harald Mabin

General Secretary.
