CAMPAIGN AGAINST INDUSTRIAL CHILD LABOUR

Reinforcing Regular Inspections Of Industrial Promisos

The Labour Department plans soon to carry out an intensive campaign against the employment of children under 14 in industrial undertakings.

The labour inspectorato employs a regular system of enforcing logislation, and constantly pays particular attention to the provisions of the law prohibiting child labour.

Assistant Commissioner of Labour, Mr. H. Williams, announced

today his intention to "ro-inforce regular inspection of industrial promises by a sorios of systomatic campaigns against child labour."

A campaign mounted last August resulted in legal proceedings

against 298 employers.

In the casos so far brought before the courts, the heaviest fine imposed was one of $2,000 on a factory owner convicted of employing five

children.

Tho maximum fine for each offence is $5,000.
