Four Trade Union officials

Mr. Greenhalgh, General Secretary of the

International Textile and Garment Workers Federation;

Mr. Gibson, General Secretary of the National

Union of Hosiery and Knitwear Workers;

Mr. MacGougan, General Secretary of the National

Union of Tailors and Garment Workers, and

Mr. Milhench, Secretary of the United Textile

Factory Workers' Association,

have written to Lord Shepherd about the employment of women on work at night in Hong Kong.

2. Lord Shepherd has already agreed to meet Mr. Pendergast, the General President of the National Union of Hosiery and Knitwear Workers, Mr. Gibson and Mr. Greenhalgh on 17 March to hear what Messrs. Pendergast and Gibson have to say about their experiences during their recent visit to the Far East. It is suggested that the points raised in the four letters should be discussed at that meeting and that Mr. MacGougan and Mr. Milhench should be asked to join their colleagues at the meeting for that purpose.

3.

Draft replies to the four letters are attached. A brief for the meeting on 17 March is being prepared.
