From The Minister of State

Foreign and Commonwealth Office

London S.W.1

13 March, 1970.

Thank you for your letter of 4 March about the employment of women on work at night in Hong Kong.

As you may know, I shall be seeing Mr. Pendergast and Mr. Gibson of the National Union of Hosiery and Knitwear Workers and Mr. Greenhalgh of the International Textile and Garment Workers' Federation on 17 March. That meeting was arranged some time ago to enable them to discuss with me the experiences of Mr. Pendergast and Mr. Gibson during their recent visit to the Far East, and I have suggested to them that we should take that opportunity to go into the question of the employment of women at night in Hong Kong. In the circumstances I hope you will be able to join us. The meeting will be at 11.00 a.m. in my room here on the 17th.
