Philip Haddon-Cave

In my letter of the 5th June, I promised to let you have details of the sort of programme we had in mind for Haddon- Cave when he comes to London later this year. We understand from your letter of the 29th June to Wilford that Haddon-Cave will be able to spend about three weeks at the Bank from the 12th to 30th October.

I enclose a copy of the programme we have drawn up for him, which will, I think, cover the main subjects which you mentioned in your letter of the 29th May. These arrangements can be regarded as firm, though there may be some minor changes of timing.

The first two days will be mainly introductory and will give him an opportunity to meet the Governors and the senior officials of the Bank; after that, I think that it would be useful for him to spend about two weeks going round the main Departments of the Bank, so as to give him an insight into the work of these Departments and a chance to make some visits outside the Bank.

We have tried to ease the pressure in the last few days to give him a chance to collect his thoughts before making his farewell calls. Nevertheless, this programme looks pretty concentrated, and if you or Wilford, to whom I am copying this letter, feel that it is too indigestible or that changes in emphasis are needed, we could prune it or change it.

I also had it in mind, if you see no objection, to send a copy of the programme to Philip Haddon-Cave (whom I know) in case he has any comments or suggestions.

R.H.J.Steel, Esq.

Yours sincerely,

Cigned) Eric asist
