Dear John

I am sorry to say that Denys Roberts has been

in Queen Mary Hospital for a week with some digestive trouble which has not yet been diagnosed. It seems likely that he will be out of action for some weeks.

2.

His place is taken by Graham Sneath who was asked by Denys Roberts to get in touch with me about female confrontation prisoners before the Prisons Board of Review 80) meets on 11 December. I have therefore explained the whole

subject to Graham Sneath and shown him your letter of 18 November and my reply of 26 November. When the Board of Review meets on 11 December he proposes to act in the same way that Denys Roberts intended, i.e. to test the views of members about the female confrontation prisoners and then to press the case or to withdraw as might seem best at the time.
