7. I handed Mr. P'oi my letter to Ma of 9 Deocmber about 49-51 Portland Place and went over it again at dinner. They still favour knocking the building down and want us to secure permission for them from the Westminster City Council.

They have not yet formally requested us to do so and I shall koep. trying to ride them off it.

I have agreed with IAD that P'ei should be given a sponsored journey. We can do this for now Heads of Missions ·

of the "poorer or less developed" countries. I have fola D'ei that when he has taken over, he should let us know his wishes on the sort of things he would like to see. We con give him a fully-paid conducted tour to Scotland, Oxford and Cambridge, a new town, and such-like. I have made olecr... that similar facilities for you would be welcome.
