My qualifications are M.R.R.S. (H.K.) and M.R.C.P. (London & Edinburgh).

I work in Queen Mary Hospital, Government Unit. The deceased Tang Chuen was

transferred to Queen Mary Hospital on 20/12/69, I examined him on his admission.

He gave a history that he had been ill for about 2 weeks for loss of appetite

and tireness while he was in Prison. About a week later, he developed jaundice

and deep colour urine. lle was admitted in the Stanley Prison Hospital. He

was originally treated there.. He was transferred to queen Mary Hospital

because his jaundice did not clean up in treatment. It became worse. He

also developed abdomen distension and swollen of legs. When I examined

him on 20/12/69, his condition was fair. He was fully conscious and could

give a good and relevant history of his illness. He had a mild ankle

oedema. His abdomen. was grossly distented with fluid and I could not feel

the liver or spleen because of the fluid there. He had liver palm which

means that his palms were red on the margin. This indicated that he had gross

hepatitic damages. There was no abmonality in his heart, lung or C.N.S.

The diagnosis was that the deceased had pre-existing cirrhosis

of liver and he had moderate severe attack of infectious hepatitis.

He was treated with high carbohydrate diet.

Vitamin K and

Vitamin B complex. He was given a drug called lasix which was to help

him to pass more water so that his fluid in the abdomen could be diminished.

He was put in this sort of treatment for a week but he showed

no improvement. On 27/12/69, a complication arose in the form of gastro-

intestinal bleeding properly had come from dilated vain in the lower end

of esophagus. Because of this bleeding he was in comatous condition and we

treated him as a case of hepatitis coma. I/V glucose drip was given.

Syrup Neo-mycin was given through a tube from the month to the stomach.

Hydrocortisone was used. All these measures were designed to bring him

(?) vesponse

out from coma but his repulse was poor. He died on 29/12/69 at 2.10 a.m.

The House Officer certified him death under my supervision.
