The
Mr. Ma began by saying that he had requested this interview to
discuss several questions. He had reported to his Government what
Mr. Morgan had said during their last interview on 2 July.
Chinese Government had noted Mr. Morgan's statement that the British
Government wished to improve relations. The Chinese Government
welcomed this assurance. The British Government could be in no doubt
that the Chinese Government shared their desire to improve relations.
The Chinese Government had made quite a few efforts and had taken
several measures to achieve this end. The Chinese Government hoped
that the British Government would make even more positive efforts to
improve relations by releasing promptly the 95 patriotic compatriots
unjustifiably detained in prison by the Hong Kong British authorities.
2. Mr. Ma went on to say that on 2 July Mr. Morgan had said that
since 5 May onwards the Hong Kong British authorities had already
released over 20 patriotic compatriots with remission of sentence;
that is, before the completion of their sentence. Mr. Ma said that
