I have the honour to inform you that I have appointed Mr R. C. Clarke, I. S. O., J. P., provisionally and subject to Her Majesty's pleasure, to be an Official Member of the Legislative Council from 15th August during the absence from the Colony of Mr J. J. Robson, J. P.

Mr Clarke's current substantive appointment is Director of Lands & Survey in the Public Works Department. He has been appointed to act in the post of Director of Public Works during Mr Robson's absence on vacation leave.

Copies of the Instrument of Appointment in respect of Mr Clarke and of the Gazette Notice promulgating his appointment are attached.
