The appointment of Ombudsmen in Dependent Territories
as an additional safeguard
Should the Government of any Lependent Territory express
a wish to appoint an Ombudsman Her Majesty's Government would
of course give the matter careful and sympathetic consideration.

Number of Ombudsmen in Dependent Territories
There are no Ombudsmen in Dependent Territories.

Previous consideration given to the appointment of Ombudsmen
in Dependent Territories
(a) Mauritius
Provision was made in Chapter VII of the
(pre-independence) Mauritius Constitution of 1966 for
the establishment of an Ombudsman in that territory.
No Ombudsman was in fact appointed before Mauritius
became independent on 12 March 1968.
