We are glad to note that you will not feel inhibited by Gordon's two-year appointment in tackling the Chamber of Commerce. We should like to be kept informed of any progress you are able to make.

We note what you say about financial independence and realise that circumstances in Hong Kong are unique, but we still hope that, for the future, if an appropriate case offered you would consider action on the lines described in the penultimate sentence of paragraph 5 of our telegram No. 975.
