:
consulted, that the apparent discrepancy which we understand to exist between our own prices and those of Selenia for the Hong- kong radar may be due to one of two causes: either that items of their equipment have been offered as, or have been understood to be, optional, which are in fact essential; or that they are offering equipment which may prove inadequate to meet local conditions, such as those of exceptionally heavy precipitation.
We believe that the civil aviation authorities at Hongkong would find it worth while to consider a firm proposal, as opposed to a budgetary offer, fron Plessey Radar in response to their requirements; against which we can offer competitive prices, good delivery, and an entirely adequate performance. Accordingly, we are anxious that, instead of any single-tender action by D.C.A., Hongkong, he should give an opportunity to us also, to submit firm prices and an up-to-date technical proposal against a firm statement of requirement.
Furthermore, we understand that Mr. Saunders, the officer of the Department of Civil Aviation in charge of Air Traffic Control at Hongkong, will be attending the United Kingdom Civil Aviation Symposium in September, and we should greatly appreciate an oppor- tunity, during his visit to this country, of showing him the AR-5 equipment and of giving him an appraisal in detail of our capa- bility.
It was pleasant to be in touch with you again and to recall our visits to NATO in Paris in Ministry of Supply days.
jours sincerely,
